again have access to this popular recreational site for fishing, with a wide variety of species

GATEWAY PARK SLATED FOR 2014
A new park is set to open in Sunny Isles Beach during 2014 — Gateway Park. The park will
be the city’s “flagship” park and will greet visitors as they enter the City. It will function as a
multi-use space available for visitors and locals to relax and will feature a parking garage,
an interactive water feature, playground, walking path, indoor and outdoor restaurant
space, open lawn, butterfly garden and performance stage. In a city only 2.5 miles long, Sunny Isles Beach has more than 9 parks, which boast activities for families, individuals and
friends looking to spend time near or on the water.
NEW AND IMPROVED SOCCER FIELD AT GWEN MARGOLIS PARK
The City of Sunny Isles Beach has recently approved a plan to replace the soccer field at
Senator Gwen Margolis Park with artificial turf. The benefits of artificial turf include lower
maintenance costs, increased playability and fewer injuries (due to the field’s even playing
surface and durability), and environmental benefits (i.e. they are pesticide-free and save on
water). The project has been completed and the field has reopened for use by the general
public. Hours of operation are 9:30am – 8:00pm daily and the new field has four soccer
fields marked (where three can be used simultaneously), to provide for maximum usability
with city programs. The City also runs various programs at this park, including Soccer
Camps during the summer, Recreational and Competitive Soccer during the school year,
and Adult Soccer Tournaments seasonally. Residents are welcome to utilize the field for
games and practice, as well, through the City Sports Field Permit Request.

has announced that Princess Cruises’ new Royal Princess will call the Port her home starting
in fall 2013. With the arrival of these ships, cruise passengers can arrive a few days before
their cruise departure to enjoy spending time with their family in Oleta River State Park,
doing a bit of shopping at Aventura Mall, or they can enjoy a relaxing beach vacation upon
their return.
