New Projects Miami at Overtown

Just northwest of Downtown Miami the area was once the preeminent and it’s the historic center for commerce in the African-American community in Miami. A pair of massive mixed-used projects near downtown Miami will be just the beginning for the new face of this historical neighborhood.

All Aboard Florida’s MiamiCentral complex will be where all commuter rail line from Orlando to Miami will make its last stop. The site will include five rail tracks, a train depot, four towers, a garage, almost 1 million square feet of office and retail space and more than 1,300 apartments, condos and hotel rooms. Miami Worldcenter Mall, 27-acre site for construction. Island Living, an eight-story building with 70 units and The ground floor of the eight-story building will include 5,000 square feet of commercial space. There will also be pedestrian friendly walkways, a playground area for children, green space and parking. The CRA has also invested in the Plaza at the Lyric, an affordable housing project currently being built on 919 NW Second Ave. in the Redevelopment Area. St. John Overtown Plaza Apartments and the Courtside Family Apartments are slated to break ground later this year. Other construction projects that are currently underway and financed by the CRA include: the Gibson Park Gymnasium, the Rehabilitation of Town Park Plaza North and the construction of a new community center at the former Ebenezer Methodist Church.
